New Innovative Support Programme to Boost Creative Sector

Creative and digital businesses will soon be able to tap in to a range of industry experts as part of an innovative support programme at Barnsley Digital Media Centre.

The programme, which launches in September, is designed to support the growth of creative and digital businesses in the region.

The creative and digital sector has been heralded by both local and national government as one of the sectors with the greatest growth potential over the next decade.

A programme of events to help businesses with finance, investment, copyright, social media and procurement gets underway on September 1 at the iconic building on County Way, Barnsley.

The first session, which is free to attend, will be an Intellectual Property (IP) clinic by lawyer Jane Lambert from NIPC Law. Jane specialises in helping start-ups and other small businesses protect and exploit their investment in brands, design, technology and creative works.

In October the focus turns to finance and Finance Yorkshire, Angels Den, Screen Yorkshire, GFA Accountants and business finance support service Red Sky Corporate Services will hold a session at the Digital Media Centre on October 11.

A Meet the Buyers event is planned for November which aims to give creative and digital businesses an insight into the minds of potential customers. The Meet the Buyers event is expected to attract a panel of leading business owners.

The events, part of the DMC’s business support programme, are all free to attend and are part of a new drive to support the 42 businesses within the £10.5m centre, as well as in the wider region.

Amanda Lennon, regional director at Oxford Innovation which runs the DMC, said: “This programme brings together some of the sharpest minds in the creative and digital sector and will be of enormous benefit to local and regional businesses as they look to grow.”
